6/11 Summary by Connie Howell
![]()
Well, the CH HSS arrived today. It raised our Solar Wind Speeds and it caused brief Geomagnetic Storms, but at least Electron Saturation dropped for the day…
.
We had C Class Solar Flares today, but we still have an M Class Solar Flare Watch due to 2 Exiting Sun Spots and 1 incoming Sun Spot.
.
The expected CH HSS arrived around noon today, causing periodic HP = 5 (G1) Geomagnetic Storms early this afternoon. Those are passed for now, and we’re currently sitting at HP = 4. NOAA’s expecting some more HP = 5 (G1) Geomagnetic Stoms overnight tonight from the CH HSS, and more on 6/12, tomorrow evening, when 2 CMEs from 6/9 & 6/11 arrive in close proximity. The Geomagnetic Storms are expected to continue on and off through late evening 6/13. Middle N. America only has a 15% chance of reaching HP = 6 (G2) levels, but we’ll likely experience HP = 5 (G1) Geomagnetic Storms with a 45% chance. The northern states in the U.S. are more likely (45% chance) to reach HP = 6 (G2) Geomagnetic Storm levels on 6/13. NOAA’s expecting these CMEs to pass over Earth quickly, and that we’ll be out of Geomagnetic Storms on 6/14.
.
The CH HSS arrived around 11.30a CDT this morning and took Solar Wind Speeds up to ~500 km/sec mid-afternoon today. With the incoming CMEs, we might be back to the 400 km/sec range on 6/15.
.
Electron Saturation mainly stayed below its Alert Threshold today. Electron Saturation might breech its Alert Threshold briefly tomorrow before the CMEs arrive. Proton Saturation stayed below its Alert Threshold.
