5/11: CME with M5.7
☀️⚡ A stunning coronal mass ejection exploded from the Sun during this morning’s powerful M5.7 solar flare, launching massive waves of superheated plasma into space in an incredible display of solar energy.
Unfortunately for aurora lovers, this CME was not directed toward Earth — meaning we’ll likely avoid the strong geomagnetic storm conditions that could have followed. Still, the eruption was absolutely breathtaking to watch and is another reminder that the Sun is becoming increasingly active during Solar Cycle 25. 🌌🔥
Even more interesting, the active sunspot region responsible for the flare is expected to rotate into a more Earth-facing position within the next 4–5 days. If the region remains active, future eruptions could potentially have a much greater impact on Earth’s magnetic field and aurora activity. 👀🌍
