7/19 Recap

We had another fairly quiet day today, and we’ll have another fairly quiet day for most of tomorrow, then we won’t have a quiet for a few days. 🙁

The CH HSS from the large Coronal Hole we talked about yesterday is anticipated to start jostling Earth mid-afternoon 7/21 and it’s expected to take us into Geomagnetic Storms mid-morning on 7/22. NOAA’s giving the middle U.S. a 30% chance of HP = 5 (G1) Geomagnetic Storms and the northern U.S. states have a 60% chance of reaching HP = 6 (G2) on 7/22. Solar Wind Speeds are expected to exceed 600 km/sec on 7/21 and they’re expected to stay in that range through 7/24. Electron Saturation likely will not have a chance to drop below its Alert Threshold any of the coming 3 days.
