7/30 Recap


Today was a bit jostled by a 6 hour long M1.9 Solar Flare that began around 11.00a CDT and ended around 5.00p CDT. It was from an Exiting Sun Spot and it deposited a significant number of electrons and protons for the duration, raising our Electron Saturation and Proton Saturation above their Alert Thresholds. Electron Saturation is below its Alert Threshold, and Proton Saturation is right at its Alert Threshold as of this post. I’ll try to put up an additional post this evening to demonstrates what those readings look like on Earth.

Beyond that, everything else was quiet with Solar Wind Speed staying below 400 km/sec. However, it looks like the expected CMEs didn’t arrive yet, so forecasts are still anticipating we’ll get above 400 km/sec when they do. I’m not seeing anything that indicates we’ll get above that range for the next 3 days – yet.

Of note is the question mark next to 8/2’s HP Index forecast. The 6 hour long Solar Flare tossed 2 CMEs during that timeframe. NOAA’s still reviewing the trajectory for those, so we’ll know more tomorrow, but if either of them impact Earth, they may change our forecasts for that day.
