Coronal hole splits
A rare anemone active region AR 4493 has developed INSIDE the large coronal hole facing Earth. This has essentially split the coronal hole in two as active regions have large, overarching CLOSED magnetic fields which basically “repel” coronal holes and open magnetic field lines.
The coronal hole is already affecting Earth. I will make a post soon, but the magnetic field strength of the solar wind is >15 nT, or around 3x stronger than usual. There is a chance of mid-latitude aurora tonight if conditions hold. This is conditional on having clear, dark, and smoke-free skies.
