6/13 Solar Recap

The CMEs that arrived today had very little impact – they raised Solar Wind Speed and Solar Wind Density a bit, they didn’t create any Geomagnetic Storms, they didn’t suppress Electron Saturation.

We had mainly B Class Solar Flares today. Only 2 low-level C Class Solar Flares. We’ve got 3 weak Sun Spots facing Earth atm.

Our Geomagnetics were very calm today. We didn’t get any higher that HP = 3.6, and we were only at that level for 2 hours. NOAA’s expecting fairly calm Geomagnetics for the next 3 days, saying the incoming CME Sideswipe should be non-eventful.

Solar Wind Speed rose about 4.30a CDT this morning when the first CME came through, creating an average high around 640 km/sec. When the 2nd CME came through around 11.00a CDT, it slowed Solar Wind Speed so that it’s back to where it was at last night’s post, around 540 km/sec. Solar Wind Density rose a bit with each CME, but stayed below 10.0/cm3. NOAA’s expecting Solar Wind Speed to slowly drop over the next 3 days.

Since the CMEs didn’t carry much density, they didn’t impact Electron Saturation. It rose above its Alert Threshold, peaked around 4.00p CDT, and dropped down below its Alert Threshold at 9.00p CDT this morning. It’ll probably maintain this wax and wane trend for several days with the CH HSSs in the forecast. Proton Saturation is steady at Moderate levels.
