Geomagnetic storm watch: Oct. 2nd and Oct. 4th
A G1 geomagnetic storm watch is in effect as one and maybe two CMEs approach Earth. The first CME is almost a sure thing. It will probably deliver a glancing blow on Oct. 2nd. The second CME is less certain. It is faint and less well aimed, but could make itself felt as a near-miss on Oct. 4th. Stay tuned for high-latitude auroras.
What a G1 storm does: G1 is the weakest of the five storm levels. Auroras brighten over Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia, and can dip into the northern tier of US states–Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Montana and Washington. Power grids may see weak fluctuations and satellite operators may notice minor effects. For everyone else, the only sign is the Northern Lights.
