8/11 Recap

Most space weather was pretty calm today, but the 8/8 CME that was expected tomorrow arrived today, taking Solar Wind Speeds into the 400 km/sec range. While it did raise our HP Index from HP = 0.3 Average @ 6.00a CDT this morning, to HP = 4.0 @ 11.00a CDT, we didn’t get any higher than that, and we’re currently sitting at HP = 0.3. No Geomagnetic Storm Watches are in effect as of this post. We’ll probably stay in the 400 km/sec range with Solar Wind Speed through at least 8/13. Current forecasts don’t indicate any Geomagnetic Storms with the 2nd CH HSS’ arrival, but it grew larger today, so we’ll see what the forecasts predict tomorrow.

Solar Flares were a little bit busier today with an incoming Sun Spot 4507 tossing a couple of C Class Solar Flares. It’s in a group of 3 Sun Spots, and the other 2 Sun Spots aren’t tossing Solar Flares, but at least 1 is exchanging energy with Sun Spot 4507, so we’ll see how that relationship evolves over the next 10 days.
