9/6 Recap
![]()
Solar Flares stayed in the C Class range today, but one Incoming Sun Spot got upgraded to capable of M Class Solar Flares. NOAA’s expecting the current Sun Spots will be fairly calm for the next few days.
.
Our HP Index was very calm today, and should be most of the day tomorrow, until mid-afternoon CDT when the CMEs are expected to begin arriving. Geomagnetic Storms are most likely overnight tomorrow night into mid-morning CDT on 9/8. NOAA’s providing a 20% chance of HP = 5 (G1) in middle N. America, and 30% chance of HP = 6 (G2) in northern U.S. states, and some reports show the CMEs are likely to raise Solar Wind Speeds into the 600 km/sec range.
.
Solar Wind Speeds were very comfortably in the 300 km/sec range today, but a CH HSS is expected overnight tonight. NOAA’s not expecting this CH HSS to have a significant impact on our HP Index, but it may raise our Solar Wind Speeds into the 400 km/sec range.
.
Electron Saturation is doggedly staying at its Alert Threshold. It may cross its Alert Threshold tomorrow before the CMEs arrive, then it should stay at Normal to Moderate levels for several days. Proton Saturation quickly recovered from yesterday’s M1.0 Solar Flare and is back in Normal ranges. It should stay there for a few days.
