9/7 Recap

There’s a lot of ambiguity in the forecasts tonight, no matter who I look at! Lol So here’s the best I can put together based on available information:
We had 1 CME arrive overnight last night, but it was came in gradually until it set up house about 5.00a CDT this morning, raising Solar Wind Speed to about 500 km/sec and causing a couple of Geomagnetic Storms beginning around noon CDT. The Good News is that the CME also kept Electron Saturation suppressed at Low – Moderate levels today. A CH HSS joined the CME about 5.00p CDT today, taking Solar Wind Speed up to ~550 km/sec. Everything else has been calm today: C Class Solar Flares, Proton Saturation at Normal levels.

We’ve got 3 more CMEs due tomorrow, most likely overnight 9/8-9/9. These CMEs are expected to cause additional Geomagnetic Storms that night, and some forecasts indicate they’ll bring our Solar Wind Speed into the 600+ km/sec range. These CMEs are expected to pass through fairly quickly. We should be back to calm Geomagnetics on 9/9, and Solar Wind Speed is expected to drop into the 400 km/sec range on 9/10. The CMEs should keep Electron Saturation below its Alert Threshold through 9/10. I posted earlier with the Incoming Geomagnetic Storm CDT Timeline, for those who are interested.

We’ve got 8 Sun Spots facing Earth atm. 6 are incoming, 2 are in the Sun-Earth Line. All of them are currently classified for C Class Solar Flares and there were 4 of those today. We can hope they stay small and calm over the next 3 days. Proton Saturation is steady at Normal levels.
