A massive, hook-shaped coronal hole stretching more than 400,000 miles has rapidly opened on the Earth-facing side of the Sun, spanning both the northern and southern hemispheres—and it’s still growing.
As this enormous opening faces Earth, a powerful stream of high-speed solar wind could arrive this weekend into early next week, increasing the potential for geomagnetic storm activity and possibly another round of auroras.
