7/17 Recap

Today was a very comfortable day in space weather after the noon hour CDT, when Solar Wind Speed dropped to ~350 km/sec! Electron Saturation was the only annoying feature today, since the current, small CH HSS is raising Electron Saturation over its Alert Threshold for several hours. We can expect that continue for several days due to the current, and incoming Coronal Holes.

Current forecast models for the 2 incoming CH HSSs indicate an arrival date of 7/21 and a shorter duration in the 700 km/sec range than they showed yesterday. We’ll see how those models develop in response to the changes in the Coronal Holes over the next 3 days. Everything else looks like it’s going to be calm and comfortable, but we do have a large Incoming Sun Spot that may start producing M Class Solar Flares in the next 3 days.
