8/7 Recap

It looks like the slow, thin 8/3 CME arrived yesterday, and was so slow and thin it had little impact on our HP Index, only raising it from HP = 0.6 to HP = 2.0. It also took until today to raise our Solar Wind Density out of the < 3.0/cm3 range, but it maxed out at 6.94/cm3 this afternoon. It didn’t raise our Solar Wind Speeds at all, and in fact, slowed them down even deeper into the 200 km/sec range! NOAA’s expecting the next 3 days to be equally calm, despite the incoming CME and CH HSS. . Solar Flares stayed in the B Class range today. We’ve currently got 3 Sun Spots in their Farewell Volley positions, but they’re all classified for C Class Solar Flares, so their Farewell Volleys may only be C Class Solar Flares. We’ve got 2 incoming Sun Spots, one is classified for M Class Solar Flares, but they were both quiet today, so maybe they’ll continue that behavior? . Electron and Proton Saturation stayed comfortably below their Alert Thresholds, though Electron Saturation slightly nudge its Alert Threshold today in response to the CH HSS from the now-engulfed-by-plasma Coronal Hole that was visible a few days ago. It’ll be another 4 days or so before the incoming Coronal Holes’ CH HSS reach Earth. . Solar Flare Conditions B Class Solar Flares . Geomagnetic Conditions HP = 0.6 Average .
